ROBIE TUFTS NATURE CENTRE in Wolfville at dusk: Harold Forsyth
observed for early CHIMNEY SWIFTS from 7:45 to 8:05 p.m., and then I
took over from 8:05 to 8:40 p.m. -- Sunset was at about 8:22 (from
Chronicle Herald's weather page). Harold saw a single swift fly by
the chimney, and then it or another one flew by a bit later.
Visibility was not great, because the sky was overcast with dark
clouds, and there was intermittent very light drizzle, and
temperature was warm (18 to 16 C.), with not much wind. On my watch
2 swifts dropped into the chimney in quick succession at 8:16,
another swift flew by twice, one swift dropped in at 8:30, and 2 more
dropped in at 8:32. I had to quit at 8:40 when another car shone its
lights directly at me (blinding) and didn't notice me flashing my
brights at it. (People in that car were only paying attention to
themselves.) CONCLUSION: AT LEAST 5 CHIMNEY SWIFTS were present and
entered the chimney.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
