JAN. 11, 2010 - 5 cardinals appeared at my home feeders this morning,
along with 8 white-throated sparrows etc., and a male flicker
attempted to feed on a small piece of commercial suet with an
immature male hairy woodpecker. They were both successful for at
least a short time. Regarding the flicker, we also have a regular
female flicker, but I didn't see her this morning.
Fred Phillips tells me he very recently saw an ALL WHITE EAGLE ??? in
New Minas. I told him I doubt this very much, and that perhaps he
saw an all-white gull? but he flatly denied that -- anyway, he is not
a regular observer nor reporter on birds.
JAN. 12, 2010 - Today at our feeders, there was a female flicker, a
single junco, 4 goldfinches, the usual single song sparrow, etc.
Darrell Slauenwhite was very surprised about 10 days ago when a
CHIPMUNK appeared in his yard at Lockartville (e. of Avonport), and
he saw it daily or nearly so until yesterday. He also told me that
fairly recently there were 2 black variants of the red squirrel in
his neighborhood for about 2 years, but they have disappeared.
