OCTOBER 1, 2009 - "My" Norway rat is still coming & going re my
feeders, plus the chipmunk; only one cardinal, a young female, seen
today. Yesterday there was also a young male hairy woodpecker, but I
have only seem him once; we also occasionally see a downy
woodpecker. And I haven't noticed any flickers for the past two days.
I saw and heard a merlin on campus, just west of the Acadia Univ.
Library, and saw another merlin near the old Wolfville hospital.
At today's Acadia Biology Seminar (on most Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. in
Biol. bldg., room 322 -- all welcome), Howie Huynh told me that very
recently someone trapped and photographed a black-phase gray squirrel
in Windsor (my first record for Windsor, I believe), and the animal/
specimen is going to the Wildlife Division of N.S. Dept. of Nat.
Resources in Kentville.
Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
