MAY 15, 2009 - Cheryl Rutledge of Upper Falmouth (old farmhouse north
of Sangster? Bridge) called to report that she saw 40 CHIMNEY SWIFTS
enter her huge old concrete chimney, which has 6 flues with 2 of them
now with liners. She said she first saw swifts this year sometime in
the previous week. She also said that in her bedroom she can hear
the swifts, and some of them come and go well before first light in
the morning.
Cheryl also reports that for many years the cattail pond across the
road from her home has had calling (and nesting?) SORA RAILS. This
year again she has heard one or more there. Cheryl is concerned
about THE CATTAILS gradually closing in on the remaining open water
of the pond, and wonders what she can do about that?
