MAR. 6, 2009 - I was surprised, after a very cold clear night of -10
to -11 C. temperatures, to find lots of muddy tracks of a prowling
RACCOON in our yard. Perhaps after so many cold nights, this animal
was restless and desperate for some sustenance?
MAR. 9, 2009 - This morning two RAVENS were present and calling in
the pine woodlot just north of the Acadia Univ. Arena, where they
nested successfully last year and might very well have now started
their nesting for this year?
It's also time again to start checking on the local BALD EAGLE NESTS
to see if they are apparently beginning their incubation of eggs.
Thus this afternoon I checked the Noggins Farm Market eagle nest, and
the presumed female's white head was just showing in the nest as she
sat there in apparent INCUBATION.
MAR. 10, 2009 - This morning David Burton saw two apparent CROWS?
that were on top of and pecking a still-alive RAVEN on the ground in
the "Duck Pond" Park or Willow Park in Wolfville. David was able to
fetch his camera and then approach the dying raven for a few close
photos. The "crows" were on a power line but had not gone back to
pestering or eating the raven, which died a bit later. Dave's photos
show clearly that the victim was a raven, but how this incident
happened will be a mystery.
