FEB. 4, 2009 - Yesterday and overnight we ended up with about 30 cm.
of FRESH SNOW covering everything this morning. At our feeders we
were surprised and delighted to see a female EASTERN TOWHEE (rufous-
sided towhee); this is presumably our old friend here, but she has
not been seen for quite a while. Also present in or near our yard
were 4 N. CARDINALS (2 males, 2 females, and the males were chasing
each other just like Spring), a male PURPLE FINCH, 2 PINE SISKINS
with several goldfinches, a male N. FLICKER, a song sparrow, 20+ AM.
ROBINS, 200+ BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, etc. No sign of the Savannah sparrow
nor chipping/clay-coloured sparrow.
P.S. I may have had an erroneous date for yesterday's snow buntings
at our home. Sorry about that.
Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
